Erickson Heads West
Erickson Retirement Communities Expanding Westward
Founded in 1983 with the renovation of an abandoned college campus in Charlestown, Maryland, Erickson Retirement Communities have grown into a rather large network of campuses that now serve more than 18,000 people. Through the innovative and forward thinking of Erickson Retirement Communities’ founder, John Erickson, came the introduction of the 100% refundable entrance deposit.
Erickson Retirement Communities remains at the forefront of progressive aging lifestyles for today’s seniors. Not only do Erickson Communities have a wide selection of top-notch amenities, but how many mature communities have their own campus TV studio? Another brainchild of John Erickson, Retirement Living TV, an increasingly-popular television network for Americans 55+, addresses health, lifestyle, finance, and other senior-related interests. In some instances, residents at certain Erickson Communities have an opportunity to learn and participate in the process of filming select programs.
Healthy aging, too, is an important part of what makes Erickson Communities so attractive. The Ericksons donate generously each year to health and wellness-oriented research as well as many other charitable causes. The Erickson School of Aging Studies at UMBC was formed in April 2004 as a result of Erickson’s efforts.
After several decades of success and growth, until just recently Erickson Retirement Communities concentrated their development primarily in the East. With the likely prospects of future developments to occur in the Phoenix, Seattle, Portland, San Diego, Sacramento, and Los Angeles areas, Erickson has announced the opening of a development office in Orange County, California. There are other Erickson communities in the planning stages for the East Coast, but soon Erickson Retirement Communities will also have a presence in the West.
