Fairhaven Retirement Community Resident Honored
No doubt there are many well-appointed and beautifully landscaped retirement communities to be found, but it is the altruistic spirit of the many wonderful residents who through their own devotion of time and expertise help to bolster the cultural atmosphere within.
Fairhaven Retirement Community in Sykesville, Maryland, happens to be fortunate enough to have within its community such a lady who willingly gives of her time and talents. Every six weeks for the past 11 years, Fairhaven resident, Jane Weyrauch, has been in charge of organizing and displaying art exhibits at the Fairhaven art gallery, where unlike many of the commercial galleries, artists are able to display and sell their art without a fee.
Married for over 50 years to an artist and retired from a career as a school teacher, it would seem Weyrauch’s appreciation of the arts and the desire to cultivate that interest among others would be almost second nature. At 77 years young, Jane brings a wealth of enthusiasm to her role of managing the art exhibits at Fairhaven. “As one exhibit comes down, another goes up immediately,” says Weyrauch. “The walls are never empty.” And so committed to standing by these words is Weyrauch that she has exhibits booked until March 2011.
It is not only the residents of Fairhaven that enjoy the art exhibits displayed at Fairhaven. Families who might otherwise not venture into the downtown galleries of Baltimore bring their children to Fairhaven to view these exhibits and expose them at an early age to the world of art.
Weyrauch’s 11 years of volunteering her time and sharing her passion for the arts have not gone unnoticed. In recognition for the outstanding contribution to the community made by Weyrauch through her work at the Fairhaven gallery, Weyrauch was recently inducted into the Maryland Senior Citizens Hall of Fame.
