New Home Design for 55+ Crowd

New American Home 2007The New American Home 2007 was unveiled in Orlando last month at the International Builders Show, where the latest in home design and technology are showcased.

Described as a three-level untramodern home touting aging-friendly features such as a wheelchair ramp and an elevator, the photo of the prototype sort of reminded me of a cross between a Frank Lloyd Wright design and the futuristic home seen in the Woody Allen’s movie Sleeper.  But what do I know about architecture?

This award-winning New American Home was constructed on an urban in-fill site in the historic area of downtown Orlando overlooking Lake Eola.   The completed home features 5,283 square feet of living area showcasing the latest in technology and design.

Keeping the interests of the 55+ buyer in mind, and with the awareness that many home buyers of that age group are either continuing with their careers or starting new ones, is one of the reason that an urban site was chosen for this home.

Featured in the home are two ground-floor master bedrooms, each with a full bath, as well as a ground-floor office with a theatre room.  Homes set up with offices and areas suitable for entertaining clients are becoming more and more the trend for the 55+ home buyer.

Aging in place was also a consideration in the design.  The house has elevator access on all three floors and is wheelchair accessible almost throughout.    For those still young enough to not want to consider themselves anywhere near the age of needing senior-friendly features, the widened hallways can be marketed in a way to immediately appear useful for maneuvering large furniture items.

This state of the art home’s concrete structure provides a unique acoustic environment to its Bose home theatre.  The technical goodies found throughout the multi-room audio system are too extensive to list, but for those interested in details, they can be found at the http://www.buildersshow.com/Home/Page.aspx?pageID=327 web site.
