Reduce Immigration - Secure US Borders
There are many important issues under debate in our country right now that have the potential to affect not only senior citizens but the whole of our nation. Too many seniors in America have fought in wars, paid exorbitant taxes, and labored endless hours over their lifetime in order to sustain a nation that offers security and opportunity to its people.
One of the issues today that is of particular concern to the majority of Americans is the excessive influx of immigrants into our country and the lack of security at our borders. Apparently, those in elected office have legislated without check for too long and our country now faces serious consequences if something isn’t done to stop this problem, and quick.
With a midterm election right around the corner, we need to insist that those we put into political office heed our interests and reduce this excessive immigration that has been occuring over the last thirty or so years and secure our borders. It is unfortunate, in my opinion, that on so many fronts this country, represented by presumably intelligent people, be always forced to be reactive rather than proactive with these issues. Why should issues like immigration, Social Security, and the like be finally addressed only when stung with the hard truth that those we entrusted with that responsibility have failed? We need to be paying closer attention.
Fortunately, we now have available to us a plethora of information through the Internet that we can access and monitor what our elected officals are doing on our behalf. Rather than listen to the often-slanted hype about who is doing what in Washington, it is now quite easy to access voting records for each candidate up for re-election.
During my research on the issue of unregulated immigration and border security, I happened upon the numbersusa.com site where I found fascinating information on that subject. There is an excellent account of the various stages of immigration to this country and why they occurred; and for those who enjoy fingerpointing, if you dare to look, you may not like what you find.
The latest influx and the one which has prompted the current debate really began in 1965 when an Act was passed causing immigration to jump from 180,000 a year to 500,000. And if this wasn’t enough, in 1990 another Act was passed to further increase immigration. I look forward to the research to see who was responsible for what then spawned an increase to around 1,000,000 new immigrants per year. It is estimated that between 1990 and 2000, the population boom stood at 32.7 million in this country, the largest in American history. As stated at the numbersusa.com site:
This is truly astounding news coming three decades after widespread determination that the country was mature and probably already overpopulated.
No wonder Americans in the 1990s became increasingly alarmed at their deteriorating quality of life due to sprawl, congestion, overcrowded schools, lost open spaces and increasing restrictions on their individual liberty in order to handle the population explosion!
Because this population boom was almost entirely engineered by federal-forced-growth policies that are still in place, the Census Bureau states that Americans will suffer this kind of rapid congestion every decade into the future unless Congress changes the policies.
For those of us who want to preserve the greatness of this country for ourselves and our posterity, I hope you will look closely at the voting records of those we will send to Washington. Don’t rely strictly on Party affiliation. I do believe there are a certain number of those in either Party with chamelion-like qualities. Be prudent, do your research, and make it clear that though we will embrace those who enter this country through legal means, we expect that those we elect in the future will work to reduce the allowed immigration rate to an acceptable level, enforce the laws in place regarding those that enter and have entered our country illegally, and do what it takes to secure our borders.
